From the idea to the development to the serial production of armoured vehicles and safety cells. Every production step is carried out in-house by WELP Armouring.
The combination of experienced automotive industry experts and first-rate materials makes a WELP Armouring safety vehicle an unsurpassed product. The final product is not just something special but the accomplishment of a one-of-a-kind product that meets our customers’ highest quality demands. In addition to using high-performance development tools (such as CATIA V5, Siemens NX), a modern machinery plant and efficient manufacturing methods, our sense of detail for the interior and exterior of a vehicle as well as our minute manufacturing tolerances are indispensable. Our expertise in developing armoured vehicles comes from our in-house automotive departments as well as from over 30 years of experience.
In addition to our existing range of armoured vehicles, we offer all kinds of other new vehicle model developments. To this end, our Development department works in close consultation with our customers during the initial stages of the concept.
In addition to armouring, we do also offer development services in the field of automotive components supply.
FULL RECORDING OF THE VEHICLE FRAME
The vehicle frame of every new vehicle under development is scanned in our in-house Measuring department. After recording the vehicle frame, the armouring kit can then be developed in our Engineering department. Scanning the data enables us to precisely develop the armouring kit.
COMPUTER-AIDED DEVELOPMENT DOWN TO THE VERY LAST DETAIL
WELP Armouring only ever designs its armouring using the bolt-in method. The modular armouring is developed and produced using CAD software. Bolt-in armouring enables any damaged armouring to be quickly replaced in the event of an accident or damage occurring in the area of deployment.
VEHICLE MANUFACTURE TO DIN ISO STANDARDS
During the manufacturing process, only certified ballistic materials are used that meet our quality standards. Our Vehicle Manufacturing department rolls out several hundred civilian armoured vehicles every year. With locations in Georgsmarienhütte and Wilkau-Haßlau, we offer the largest production area for armoured vehicles anywhere in Europe.
WORLDWIDE UNIQUE PRODUCTION DOCUMENTATION
A vital factor of production is the documentation used during the entire manufacturing process! Every workstep is meticulously documented in our project file and archived for decades. CAD data and imagery are used to produce the following for each vehicle / armouring module:
- Operation sheets
- Sub-assembly plans
- Handbooks or manuals
- Ballistic reports / material tests
- Final inspection reports
- Information sheets
REALISTIC TESTS THROUGH INDEPENDENT GERMAN BALLISTIC AGENCY
Our armoured vehicles are tested and successfully certified by the independent German ballistic agency, the Beschussamt. Not only does the armouring solution developed by our engineers protect vehicle occupants against hold-up robberies, kidnappings, assaults and IEDs (so-called car bombs), but the entire vehicle armouring also encompasses the boot lid. One of the outstanding features that we offer is our innovative 360° overlap protection system which keeps vehicle occupants completely safe from a variety of ballistic attacks.
It’s all down to quality
“Safety and perfection” are uppermost priorities at WELP Armouring! Our armoured vehicles are manufactured and developed in compliance with the “zero error strategy”. During the final inspection of a vehicle, it is checked from top to bottom before a seal of approval is attached. On request, we can offer to carry out the final inspection with you present at our production facilities!
The glass used for the windows in our armoured vehicles can be substituted for armoured glass on request. All-round armouring is standard behind the side glass in the cargo area.
The armouring deployed in the passenger cell is always constructed as a self-supporting structure. This is based on a modular bolt-in design system – a special feature of our all-round protection: Alongside offering the benefits of an enhanced and more flexible means of assembly, this system also provides for repair and maintenance work to be carried out more smoothly and swiftly. Only this kind of system enables the armouring to be fully corrosion protected.
Here, particular attention is paid to the overlaps between the opaque armouring and the door and window cutouts. These overlaps are designed in such a way that accessing the vehicle is only minimally restricted whilst offering the ideal panoramic view. By using special armouring materials, such as steel and ceramic plates in combination with fibre composite, we also achieve the ideal balance between ballistic and blast performance and armouring weight.
The armoured glass is developed exclusively with the world's most reputable glass manufacturers.
Thanks to our vehicle interior specialists, we at WELP Armouring are able to adapt the interior of every armoured vehicle to our customers' exact needs, ranging from highly durable materials to high-end luxury fittings.
The exterior components of your vehicle are just as important as the interior. Whether it's the vehicle's finish, add-on parts, seals, door or flaps, WELP Armouring makes sure that the vehicle has the fittings and functions you can rely on. We can modify the exterior of your vehicle to suit your requirements – to enable you to integrate communications devices, additional lighting or payload, for example.
The purpose of every WELP Armouring armoured vehicle is to reliably protect its occupants when under attack and also to ensure mobility no matter what the danger. To guarantee this every time, we also incorporate armoured battery systems and electronic control units into our vehicles.
Aside from these standard systems, your vehicle is fitted with additional safety, comfort and entertainment features depending on the customer specifications.
STRENGTHENED SUSPENSION AND CHASSI
Whilst the installed armouring ensures the safety of the vehicle's occupants, any vehicle that has been converted must continue to operate completely safely and reliably in traffic. This is an essential element of vehicle safety. Two features that go to ensure this are energy absorption in the event of a road accident and sound driving stability. The combination of armouring with a specially strengthened vehicle body, along with integrated reinforcement where the corresponding elements meet, plays a key role here. At the same time, we accommodate for the vehicle's increased weight by reinforcing the chassis frame. This specifically entails the extra reinforcement or replacement of suspension elements, brake systems, the springs, shock absorbers and stabilisers along with the fitting of special run-flat tyres.
